It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are what's still available for a team that has achieved everything.

That it took up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, honestly, a testament to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their batsmen to maintain a record if not afforded the opportunity.

In the end, the consequence of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy being given a chance to create her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her bow and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort can be debated.

Certain people claim the case for the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it's been a challenging time because it seemed I lacked timing whatsoever," commented Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your competitive instincts take over and you just lock into the match."

Healy's competitiveness has continuously been her great strength - and a priceless quality in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the batsman was in motion.

"An opportunity to go out there and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was dismissed Australia needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the belief to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this tournament should hear.

In recent days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this victory coming after win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she wished she had played despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those injuries have postponed plans to retire, this championship is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as skipper.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
