The star has given the full amount of his £25k award cash to the Music Venues Trust, which works to protect the Britain's independent live music spots.

He was presented with the cheque on 16 October as his third album his work was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

The musician has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues played in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have permanently closed – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to support numerous local spots across the UK.

The money supported locations that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties stemming from water damage, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces received financial assistance in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and audiences.

"The notion that revenue from performances in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just sensible," the star has said.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," remarked singer Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the MVT revealed it had protected two grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in the city and the other in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition program, which is funded by a national body and supporters who acquire "shares" in the properties.
