A deadly train derailment in the southern state of Oaxaca has caused the fatalities of at least 13 people, an incident likely to revive opposition criticisms regarding the speed and execution of the country's key government projects.
The crash happened on the Interoceanic Train, a rail link developed to connect the Atlantic and Pacific across the slenderest section of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This endeavor was designed to provide an alternative rail cargo route to the Panama Canal, intended to promote commercial progress in the area.
“We will rigorously clarify the reasons behind this accident,” stated the national leader.
The leader announced that, of the some 250 individuals on board, another 98 were injured, with five of those in critical condition. The leader added plans to visit Oaxaca to confer with those impacted.
Key Undertaking of Former Government
The Interoceanic Train was a central public works project of the previous administration, whose term finished the prior year. This project was a hallmark of his government's strategic goals for the southeastern region.
