Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
